Heroes ~ Musical Monday's

What and who exactly are Heroes
When I looked it up this is what I found:

noun

(plural) -roes
  1. a man distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility, fortitude, etc
  2. a man who is idealized for possessing superior qualities in any field
  3. (classical mythology) a being of extraordinary strength and courage, often the offspring of a mortal and a god, who is celebrated for his exploits
  4. the principal male character in a novel, play, etc

I've had this on my mind for a while, my little girl has a poster in her room of Neil Armstrong taking the first steps on the moon.  She is fascinated with Space and with going one day.  So what will happen when she is older and discovers how the Media fixated on the negatives of this man after his death?  And why did they have to destroy a National Hero???

When I googled "Modern Day Heroes" the list was very short and I hate to admit I didn't know many of them.

With all this weighing on my mind I recalled Bonnie Tyler's song "I Need a Hero" made popular by the movie Top Gun (Tom Cruise, another man who I can't stand to watch now because of all the negative/crazy media publicity)

Where have all good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need

I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me

Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life

Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there’s someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like a fire in my blood

I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life

Now for a more modern song.  AWOLNATION's Kill Your Heroes
I can't decide if it is a positive song or negative (mainly because I just enjoy the beat).

But what I do know is that the media is killing our Hero's and I want them back!

Well, I met an old man
Dying on a train.
No more destination,
No more pain.
Well, he said
"One thing before I graduate
Never let your fear decide your fate."

I say ya kill your heroes and
Fly, fly, baby don't cry.
No need to worry cause
Everybody will die.
Every day we just
Go, go, baby don't go.
Don't you worry we
Love you more than you know.

Well, the sun one day will
Leave us all behind.
Unexplainable sightings
In the sky.
Well, I hate to be
The one to ruin the night.
Right before your, right before your eyes.

I say ya kill your heroes and
Fly, fly, baby don't cry.
No need to worry cause
Everybody will die.
Every day we just
Go, go, baby don't go.
Don't you worry we
Love you more than you know.

Well, I met an old man
Dying on a train.
No more destination,
No more pain.
Well he said
"One thing, before I graduate
Never let your fear decide your fate."

I say ya kill your heroes and
Fly, fly, baby don't cry.
No need to worry cause
Everybody will die.
Every day we just
Go, go, baby don't go.
Don't you worry we
Love you more than you know.

I say ya kill your heroes and
Fly, fly, baby don't cry.
Don't you worry cause
Everybody will die.
Every day we just
Go, go, baby don't go.
Don't you worry we
Love you more than you know.
*****
I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Who am I supposed to tell my daughter to look up to when she gets older?  Why does the media insist on reporting every negative thing anyone has ever done, where has the good gone?  And what about all the soldiers risking their lives daily for our freedom?

Please bring back the heroes!

I'm linking up to my very first Musical Mondays Come join this fun linky party.

:D I love your theme!!! We lost a hero of mine today (Margaret Thatcher) *sadface*

Love the Awolnation song....as far as heroes, I'm hoping that I promoted strong women to my girls while they were growing up. I did require that they read a few biographies, and I tried to correct the nonsense in the community, like when the cheerleading mom told Shanley Belle to quit the math team and stick with cheerleading because math team is social suicide, but I digress.....

I love that clip of Bonnie's that you included the link to in your post...that the word bubbles come up and correlate with the song! Sometimes I can't tell what words are in songs so this helps me a lot. Very blood pumping song...love it to get me going this morning!
