Hello for the last time (for the Read Along) my wonderful Read alongers.  It has been so much fun to read along with you and I am so glad that you joined me, it made this little project of mine so worthwhile.  I am tossing around an idea of doing another Read Along after the holidays and hope that you will join me again.

Anyway onto the final prize (and a bit of a sneak peak at tomorrow nights Practical Magic Blog Party bits and pieces)

The winner of 1 PBS credit OR $5 Gift Certificate to Amazon OR the handmade bookmark with 3 Witch Black Glittered Magnetic Clothespins is

Congratulations, please e-mail me at cmoh@earthlink.net and let me know what prize you would like.

I hope you will join me tomorrow evening for a wonderful party hosted by Frosted Petunias, 2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party,  it is because of her that I came up with the read along in the first place.  So, hop around starting tomorrow evening to all the Practical Magic posts (and make sure to stop by mine, all Practical Magic Read Alongers will have a chance to win a fun prize I've put together).

Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Savon Marie ~ An Etsy store Review

A few weeks ago I was in search of something for tomorrows upcoming Practical Magic Blog Party and I ran across SavonMarie on Etsy.  The item I fell in love with was not quite what I needed for my Blog Party but I decided to get it anyway (it was not overly priced) and another item from a different store and compare the two head to head.  Well, SavonMarie came out far better than my other option so I am here to tell you just how wonderful this store and the woman that runs it is!

I purchased Harmony Soap and was almost immediately contact by the owner with a thank you and soon there after with shipping information.  She makes all the soup once the order comes in (as did the other store I ordered from, but I never got any personal messages from them).  About a week later I received this wonderful package (it took almost 3 weeks for the other store to complete my order and their soap was not nearly as pretty).

But the greatness didn't stop there, look at the wonderful extras she sent! And everything was so pretty it made me feel special and want to shop with her again. Ohh and I have failed to mention that the soap is Divine, it smells scrumptious and it feels so luxurious (yes, I am using it, at the price she sells her soap at I feel like I can use it and enjoy it instead of it just being pretty).

I am more than thrilled with my purchase and hope that you check out SavonMarie and enjoy her items as much as I am enjoying mine!

Levitation Bookmark

Here it is, the last of the handmade items for the Practical Magic Read Along.  It's kind of sad that it's almost over but I had a great time making the handmade prizes.
For this bookmark I decided to actually use part of the book (but have no fear, I just photocopied the pages instead of using the actual book, I've got other plans for it.)  This bookmark is topped with fabric roses and it comes with the 3 glorious Witch black glittered clothespin magnets.

I'm a little disappointed in my background glitter selection, I went with a combination of black and white and you can't really see the lightning bolt I made. Oh well, can't win them all, it's still fabulously glittery which is always my goal!

Well, that's it gang, hope you like it!

Practical Magic Read Along ~ Levitation

Another hello to my fabulous Practical Magic Read Alongers.  It is kind of a bitter sweet hello since it is our last (except for the final giveaway and big Practical Magic Blog Party, hope you will join me for that as well).  I thoroughly enjoyed my time with all of you and this book and hope you did to.  Now onto the fun part.

The winner of the PBS credit OR $5 Amazon Gift Certificate or Handmade Bookmark with blue silk flower hair pin is

KKAT
Congratulations!

Please let me know which prize you would like cmoh@earthlink.net

Now onto the final section of the book, Levitation. First a quick review of how this all works.

Below you will find a few questions. Answer them to the best of your knowledge in the comments section. Please number your answers (you do not need to re-type the questions) and leave a way for me to get in contact with you (e-mail, blog address, PBS nickname).

For each question you answer correctly I will enter your name in the cauldron for this weeks prize (1 PBS credit OR $5 Gift Certificate from Amazon OR a handmade gift by me). You have until Thursday September 15th at noon EST to answer the questions. The winner will be announced on next weeks Read Along questions and have 48 hrs to claim their prize (I will redraw at that point if contact has not been made).

This weeks handmade prize is a Bookmark and 3 Witch Black Glittered Clothespin Magnets

1.  What dinner does Sally make the night before they go to the Aunts?  What do they eat instead?
2.  What did Gillian get for having her hair chopped off?
3.  What are the aunts first names?  Which one has a nickname and what is it?
4.  What happened to the mute waitress from the first section of the book and what is her name?
5.  Who calls Gary to come to the Aunts?

Just for Fun:
When Gillian told Sally what she got for getting her hair cut off the Author doesn't make it clear if she is telling the truth or not.  Do you think she was telling the truth?  Do you think Sally believes her?

Now that it is all said and done I would like to ask your opinion of the men in this book.  Do you like them?  Do you think they are all similar in some way?  If you had no choice and you had to be with one of them which one would you choose?

How many stars do you give this book?

Most important, would you do another read along if I offered one and if so what type of book would you most like to do?

Sorry no food this week, I really did want to make some lasagna and some cupcakes but it was a Chinese take out kind of week for me.  Hope everyone is having a great week can't wait to read your answers.

Clairvoyance Bookmark

Another week has almost come and gone in the Practical Magic Read Along.  I wanted to take a moment before posting the final Read Along post to show off this weeks handmade item.

All over the background I stamped and clear embossed toads.  But I really wanted to focus on the good things going on in Gillian's life, thus the bunny and hearts.

To finish it off I added a gorgeous wide chocolate brown silk ribbon and a gold toad.  Now to get next weeks all finished up, right now it just needs a back and ribbon.  There's still time to enter this weeks go HERE you have until tomorow at noon!  Good Luck.

Just Add One, 2011-2012 COF Round Robbin Journal

It's that time again, another Circle of Friends Round Robbin Journal!

This year my journal is a giant tag journal that I have called Just Add One.  Each member will have to use the same items that I used on the sample: white paper, baby blue acrylic paint, white crepe paper, silver glitter, Royal Birds stamp set by Layers of Color and Delicious Dots Art stencil also by Layers of Color.

Then they will also have to add an item from the Add an item bag.  After an Item is added the next member is required to use it along with what I listed above and add another item from the add an item bag.  I know it sounds confusing but I promise I spent more time explaining it in my directions for them.  Ultimately by the time I get the tag book back there will be an additional 6 items on the last tag than what we started with.

I am excited to start another round Robbin with this wonderful group.  Can't wait to see what the ladies came up with this year!

Practical Magic Read Along Clairvoyance

Hello my most wonderful read alongers, hard to believe that we are over halfway through, kind of sad but fun at the same time.  It has been a joy to read along with you.  So many of your answers are full of things I've never thought about, which makes this even more fun for me!

Onto the super fun part, the awarding of last weeks prize and this was a big one if you pick the handmade gift (if you don't I'm making more brownies LOL)!

The winner of the PBS credit OR $5 Amazon Gift Certificate or Handmade bookmark with Brownie Kit is...

This weeks handmade prize is a Bookmark and a blue silk flower hair pin (to wear when you are in trouble, for me that is always).

1.  What has no fear of Jimmy's ghost?
2.  What do the Aunts send Kylie for her birthday?  How late is the gift?
3.  What does Kylie cook and whose favorite is it?
4.  What is sitting on Kylie's window sill and what does it give her?
5.  What does Gillian o to help Sally out of her depression?

Bonus:  There are 3 animals mentioned in this section what are they and what is their significance to the story?

Just for fun:
So how are you feeling about Kylie and Antonia now?  Do you think it reasonable that the girls personalities would change so much with just one person entering their life (Gillian)?

What about Gillian do you like her more as a character now or less?

Have you noticed all the food mentioned in this book?  There seems to be something in each chapter, why do you think the author did this?  Do you think she did it intentionally?

How are you feeling overall about the book?  Are you still enjoying it?  What story line are you most interested in?
Speaking of food I decided to make Ben's dinner, the Carrot soup, Salad and Welsh rabbit or Rarebit (however you spell it).  I selected a cream of carrot soup with fragrant Indian spices that is fabulous however it doesn't pair well with the Welsh Rarebit which is out of this world good!

Cream of Carrot Soup with Fragrant Indian Spices
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh ginger root
1 pound carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
2 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
7 cups chicken broth
1 can coconut milk
1 cup heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste

Melt the butter in a large pot.  Add the onions and cook until soft and lightly browned, about 6 minutes.  Stir in the spices and ginger root.  Cook about a minute.  Stir in carrots, potatoes, chicken stock andcocnut milk, bring to a boil.  Lower heat and simmer 30 minutes or until carrots are very tender.  Using a hand blender liquefy the contents of the pot.  Add cream simmer 10 minutes, add salt and pepper and serve hot.

Welsh Rarebit
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup beer (I used Sam Adams Oktoberfest)
3/4 cup heavy cream
6 ounces cheddar cheese (I use extra sharp)
2-4 drops hot sauce
Rye bread

In a medium saucepan over low heat melt the butter and whisk in the flour.  Cook whisking constantly for 2-3 minutes.  Whisk in mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper until smooth.  Add beer (drink remaining) and whisk to combine.  Pour in cream and whisk until well combined and smooth.  Add cheese, stirring constantly until cheese melts.  Add hot sauce.  Cut thick slices of bread and pour creamy cheesy concoction over it.

For the salad I just bought a bag of European mix and added some artichoke hearts that have been marinated and topped it with a bit of balsamic dressing.  This is my new super fast super yummy salad.

Of course I couldn't leave out the chocolate cake, even though the one in the book had a rather traumatic ending.  Here is my Hazelnut Expresso German Chocolate Cake with Black Cherry filling and Hazelnut Mocha Rum Icing (that is a mouth full I need a better name for this concoction).

I thought about adding decorations to it but decided Kaylie wouldn't have so I shouldn't.  Taste the same regardless.
Alas there is no recipe, I made this one up as I went, If you really want me to figure it out I have no problem re-making this (and eating it) just let me know and I'll try to get that done next week.

Hope you are enjoying the book.

Next week (Friday September 16th) the Questions will be about the Levitation portion of the book. See you then!
