Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Last year, at the most inopportune time, my camera died and with the help of a very good friend, a professional photographer to boot, I bought a new fancy camera.  But I must admit that I have not used it to it's full potential, heck I probably haven't even used an eighth of it's potential.

So this past week when I was blog hopping for the Build your Blog hop I ran across a photographers blog and discovered Scavenger Hunt Sunday. To me this was a great opportunity to stretch my horizons and hopefully learn something new.

So without further ado, here are my entries for the 1/27 Scavenger Hunt.

BLING
This is a shot of a roll of Rhinestones that I have, I cropped in close using photoshop but didn't alter the colors in any way.

FUZZY
Meet my Studio Cat, Sugar.  I went back and forth about this photo, keeping the wood frame in or not, I really like the black behind her, don't know how that happened.  To me this shot is pretty but I know it shows how much of an armature I am, just don't know how to fix that.

FABRIC
Okay, I must have taken a billion fabric pictures.  And I wasn't pleased with any of them.  I wanted to show off all the different patterns and textures but really all I ended up with was a mess.  I selected this one  because I cast a shadow on the lower left hand side and because of the black hole in the upper right.  This shot was taken at close range into a drawer full of fabrics.

 LACE
Close up of a bunch of lace bits that I have in a box, color enhanced in photoshop.

WOOD
This was my favorite shot to take and the most difficult for me to choose from.  To me the collection this week is all about texture so I went with a close up from a pile of wood we have outside.  I love how the evening light turned the wood a bluish hue.

I'm not sure I learned anything this week, I really just went out and took pictures.  Please feel free to criticize/critique my photo's I want to get better.  I did have fun and plan to participate as much as I can.

  1. What great fun - lovely photos and I am sure it will be a wonderful learning experience for you :-) I love Fuzzy and the lace. The wood pikkie is gorgeous - such fabbo texture and super moss. My Fave is the Bling - I got it up large and just stared and stared. Wonderful all the light and sparkle on the facets. I was trying to see if I could see you reflected in there taking the photo LoL xxxx

  2. You are being way to hard on yourself, but then aren't we all, you have some very well done pictures. The frame in front of the cat adds a mysteriousness to him that it just being him wouldn't have. However, the one with the fabric does a great job of showing layers and frayed edges.

I think you did a great job of catching the textures this week! I can't wait to see your take on next week's prompts :)

  4. I think you did a great job with this week's shots. I also have a wonderful camera that I don't nearly use up to it's potential. But it sure is fun as I learn new things!

  7. What a fun set of pictures! I really like the lighting of your lace one. Scavenger Hunt Sunday is a fun way to work on new ways of being creative with your camera. I noticed the more I did it the more I tried new things so this week you might have felt like all you did was take pictures and did a little bit of editing but next time you could do something a little extra:-) By the way love the fuzzy one and the lace one.

  8. I know I don't use my camera to its full potential either.....I just keep playing though :). I love your Fuzzy photo with the frame in it. Showing him peeking around the frame makes him look shy, but curious. Without it, he would look more sinister. I'm loving all of the texture!

  9. I really hadn't thought about the connection to texture in this hunt. Nicely done. Have a blessed day.

I have to use my daughter's camera and more often than not she takes the pics and has to upload them when blogger decides not to play!!! Am a complete technophobe with gadgets, so well done you on stretching yourself!! Love the bark and fav of all is the lace, love how the jumble looks so pretty!!

  11. Welcome to the scavenger hunt. I love the crop and lighting on your bling shot - excellent. I would have probably cropped in on the kitty shot - but that is totally a personal preference and all in the mood you wish to set (playful as it is currently presented). Enjoyed your interpretations and look forward to seeing more from you with the hunt.

  12. You did a great job with your photos. I had my camera for 2 years before I even attempted to move off the Auto setting. SHS is one of the most fun things of the week.
