Discussion:
1. Why do you think the author included Sandy's character?
To provide a vehicle for introducing more information about dreamhunters.
2. If you were a Dreamhunter what type or combination would you want to be and why?
I have no idea. Maybe a Healer? Or a Novelist. A healer sounds soothing, and a novelist sounds unique. (I often can see two sides to an argument, so maybe that is what is calling to me about a Novelist? You can see more than one perspective?)
3. Do you feel like the author was clear enough in her explanation of what Plazar did for Tziga? Remember this is a YA book.
Sort of. I'm not sure that the realy understanding of what he did will become apparent until later in the story.

ReplyDelete2. What are the 7 types of Dreamhunter abilities and what do they each do? 1) Soporifs they fall asleep so heavy that it sends others to sleep.
2) Mounters they dream over people. 3) colorists who can suggest and influence in dreams which is illegal. 4) gifters can put real peoples images into dreams. 5) Novelists can catch split dreams aka a dream from more than one perspective 6) healers specilize in healing dreqms. And 7) hames have big penumbras so they can reach more people
3. What did Sandy name the dream he and Laura caught instead of Starry Beach? Water diviner
4. What language did Laura sing to her Uncle in? Konin
5. Who is the letter Marta writes too and what are the contents? The Grand Patriarch to help about what to do about the memorial service for Tziga.
Discussion: 1. Why do you think the author included Sandy's character? I believe to provide a counterpart for Laura much like Grace and Tziga are.
2. If you were a Dreamhunter what type or combination would you want to be and why? Colorist hands down. Then again I love to have obscene indecent power in my imagination
3. Do you feel like the author was clear enough in her explanation of what Plazar did for Tziga? Remember this is a YA book. Yes and no...yes but I still think plazar is holding back.
I'm at work and left my book at home so I can't reference it easily, so I"ll just skip to the discussion questions.
ReplyDelete1. I think the author included Sandy as a love interest. This is YA, after all! Granted, there's not much love interest but perhaps there will be more of it in the sequel. Otherwise, I really don't understand why he's there.
2. Ok, so I guess I predicted the "Inception"-like ability to suggest an idea. Being a Colorist sounds cool, but being a soporif combined with a gifter would be a nice talent. Imagine being able to send people off to sleep with nice dreams individually edited for that person. I would think frazzled parents would enjoy being able to send a restless child off to a pleasant sleep with sweet dreams.
3. Even though it's YA, most people were exposed to fairy tales and other ideas of love and chivalry. Or at least I hope they were. Even an adolescent should be able to appreciate the grief of Tziga and finding comfort in dreaming about his late wife. I do think the author could have done a better job of explaining it, or even give some examples of dreams in which a gifter had altered a dream for Tziga.
